iMasons Raises $100,000 for Scholarships and Achieves Industry Gender Parity!
On October 2, 2019 Infrastructure Mason leaders from across the globe convened in San Jose, CA, to connect, grow and give back. The 2019 End User Summit brought together End Users, Partners, and D&I Committee members for a day of collaboration and an evening of giving!
Our second D&I Fundraising dinner raised over $100,000 for the iMasons Scholarship Fund. This event edged out the $89,000 raised at the D&I Gala in Monaco just four months earlier. The iMasons community has raised nearly $300,000 towards the $1M education challenge launched at our London Member Leadership Meeting in November 2018.
This event also marked another momentous achievement – The iMasons End User Summit reception and dinner achieved Gender Parity for perhaps the first time in our industry’s history. More than half of the attendees were female.
Results like this do not happen by accident. Infrastructure Masons has been focused on Increasing Industry Awareness, enhancing Education and championing Diversity & Inclusion, starting with gender. We are Uniting the Builders of the Digital Age, one professional at a time. Our sincere appreciation to all of the members and partners who have made this possible. Together we can truly move an industry.
Diversity and Inclusion Reception
The Fundraiser kicked off with a networking reception that included the End Users from the earlier Summit, the members of the iMasons D&I Committee, representatives of iMason’s Foundation Partners, and IM Women MRG members and other female professionals from across our industry. At the reception and dinner, end users outnumbered partners, and over half the attendees were women!
Uniting the Builders of the Digital Age
One of iMasons strategic priorities is Increasing Industry Awareness to help attract more talent. One of the most important elements of that strategy is to ensure we are attracting diverse talent. In 2017 we found that less than 10% of our industry were female. We chose to start our D&I work by focusing on gender. At the 2019 End User summit we wanted to do this by putting a face to our industry. Achieving gender parity in the photos was a critical step to not only show what our future could look like – but what it should look like.
Many thanks to Interglobix – the magazine that focuses on leaders who are shaping the digital infrastructure industry – for the media partnership with iMasons and their support in helping us raise the awareness of our community. Stay tuned for more to come!
At the 2018 DataCloud Awards ceremony in Monaco, iMasons awarded our first Diversity Champion Award focused on gender parity. Gender parity is critical, but it’s only a start. We’re expanding our D&I work and the 2019 Diversity Champion Award will broaden our focus to include other underrepresented groups. Award nominations are being accepted.
Thank you to all of the amazing attendees who made this possible. Stay tuned for updates over the next two quarters on how we are going to leverage this work to drive more awareness.
D&I Fundraising Dinner
At iMasons we leave our companies at the door and connect as individuals. The evening was full of networking and relationship building that will last far beyond the event.
The D&I Fundraising dinner was kicked off by Amber Caramella, our newly appointed Executive Sponsor for IM Women Globally, and our amazing event Emcee. Amber shared the incredible progress our community is making in progressing Awareness, Education, and D&I. She also asked each of our newly forming Member Resource Groups chairs to provide an update on their work. Bill Kleyman – Millennials/GenX Chair, Ivonne Valdes – Hispanic/LatinX Chair and Lee Kirby – Veterans Chair.
The evening concluded with Amber Caramella (IM Women Exec Sponsor), Hannah Ormondroyd (D&I Committee Chair) and Maricel Cerruti (Board Member & D&I Exec Sponsor) awarding Education Champions medals to our amazing donors. The D&I Fundraising Dinner raised over $100,000 for iMasons scholarships, 50% to be awarded to women.
We are so proud of these industry leaders who are truly D&I and Education champions.
